MHPE Introduction

The field of medical education is rapidly growing worldwide and attracting the attention of workers in the health professions. The assumption that all the faculty members in this area are, by nature, experts in education is a wrong claim. It means that improving and upgrading medical education capabilities of all staff working in health professions is an important concern, especially that the turnover of factual knowledge and experience in medical education is very high.

Needless to say that, the availability of programs in medical education to respond to the growing needs of medical staff would facilitate their development in the area. The department of medical education in Qassim College of Medicine has been established recently with a mission to enhance and improve the capacity of the medical staff in many aspects of medical education, besides providing a suitable medium of medical education appropriate for undergraduate program planning and implementation. Keeping with this mission, our Master program in medical education (MHPE) has been introduced to bridge the gap between what is needed and what is available. This master covers the most important basic areas in medical education i.e. types of curricula, strategies of teaching and learning in medical education, evaluation and assessment, faculty development, research in medical education in addition to other important related issues.

Mission

The mission of this program is to prepare competent and compassionate educators who are able to meet and respond to the changing health care needs and expectations of the community, through innovative medical education, faculty development, and research and health services collaborating with local and international partners.

Vision

To be a leading program in innovative medical education by adopting a didactic educational strategy stands on problem-based learning, community-based, and community-oriented education. Promoting faculty development in their career profession, education, and research is a corner stone of the program. Collaborating with national and international partners to achieve this mission is an important strategic pillar.
